It is with great pleasure Maurine Brooks Christopher and the Judges Award Panel of the Society of American Magicians, awarded Gay Blackstone with the “2009 Milbourne Christopher Foundation Award” for her extraordinary dedication and contribution to the art of magic.  The presentation took place at the Society of American Magicians (SAM) Annual convention held in Buffalo, NY July 2009.  Gay Blackstone is one of only three women who have received this honor since it was first awarded by the Foundation in 1990.

Each year the foundation chooses a recipient who continues to contribute to the magic community and Gay does that on many levels.  From her consulting and mentoring to her lecturing and educating, Gay Blackstone shares her experiences with other members of the magic fraternity, as well as, those new to it.

Gay has helped to bring magic back into the mainstream media with her annual 2-Hour Television Special “World Magic Awards” and in 2009, with “Masters of Illusion” – a television series showcasing magicians from around the world and providing a stage for them to perform for millions of viewers.

Millbourne Christopher (1914-1984) was the preeminent historian of magic in the U.S. and before his death; he amassed one of the largest magic libraries in the world.  Christopher was an esteemed performer, writer and consultant on conjuring.  Along with performing around the world, in 1957 he arranged The Festival of Magic, one of the very first television magic specials.
